    Lone Elk Park – Another image from this morning at Lone Elk Park.  This young whitetail buck was taking advantage of some grain left by the park staff.  Temperature this morning, around 8:30 AM, when this photo was taken was in the low 80’s with humidity around 30%.  As the day progressed, the high got to 97 degrees (after ten days with highs above 100 the break was appreciated).  Thunderstorms tonight and now, just before 10:00 PM, temps have dropped to […]

    Lone Elk Park – After 10 days of 100 degree plus weather, many of those days setting both high and low temperature records, a day in the low to mid 90’s seems like a cool snap. To take advantage of the “cooler” temperatures, I visited some of my favorite parks this morning.  At Lone Elk Park I saw whitetail deer, elk, Canada geese, a Great Blue Heron, and these guys, wild turkeys.  There were actually four turkeys on this hillside but […]

    Missouri Botanical Garden – This Lantern Festival Display is titled The First Emperor’s Quest for Immortality.  The large figure in the center represents Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor, who unified China, enacted political and economic reforms, and built an early version of the Great Wall of China.  He was also responsible for the creation of the Terracotta Army, the mausoleum they “guard”, and a major road system.  As he aged, he began to search for a magic elixir that […]
