I found at least one place where old signal equipment goes. This secure BNSF maintenance yard in Valley Park, MO, seems to be a home for some old signal equipment like these crossing signals and gate mechanisms. Not sure if they will be reused or are simply stored awaiting scrapping.

Railroad Signal Photo, posted 2012-12-30
What happens when old railroad signals are no longer needed? These were up until right before the holidays. It appears that little care was taken during their removal (ladders and platforms all bent up) and they have been left lying beside the UP mainline since their removal. They are just west of downtown Webster Groves, Missouri.

Mums Photo, posted 2012-12-27
It was only a few weeks ago that these colorful mums draped the stone walls of the Japanese Garden at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Now with the temperatures much lower, most of the things at the Garden have gone into their winter browns with only a few bits of color here and there. But only a few more months until another year of brightly colored foliage and blooms come back for another visit.

Snowman Photo, posted 2012-12-22
We had our first snow of the year this week, not even enough to stick on the grassy areas. The odds of a white Christmas seem really long. Even so, if you take a trip to Wild Lights at the St. Louis Zoo you can see a snowman and Santa greeting people under the trees.
