These unusual trees at Camp Darby, Italy (between Pisa and Livorno) were called umbrella pines. Each year to Italians would come onto the post to harvest the pine cones from these trees for the pinole nuts they contained. As the cars in the photo might hint, this photo dates from the 1979-1980 timeframe.

This church in Esslingen am Neckar was a very popular photo subject. The large rectangular sign in the foreground was a highway direction sign. The Krankenhaus sign points the direction to the local hospital.

German half-timbered buildings. A Rathaus is the town hall. An apotheke is a pharmacy. Markt is the easiest to translate meaning market. So combining these, Apotheke am Markt is a pharmacy on the market, possibly Market Street or the local market square. And Seit 1479 means since 1479.
