    Momma and Daddy mallard along with one of their friends were swimming near the bridge where kids feed the koi at Missouri Botanical Garden.  One little duckling was doing its best to keep up with the group while also trying to be independent by occasionally going the opposite direction.  Momma would let the duckling go so far then she would swim over and herd it back to an acceptable distance from where she wanted to be.

    Lotus blossom, August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area (also known as the Busch Wildlife Area), St. Charles County, MO.  This area was used by the Department of Army as a TNT munitions plant to support the World War II effort but now includes 3,000 acres of forest, grasslands, croplands, old fields, prairie, and wetlands.     The Union Pacific was doing some maintenance work, rail replacement I think, in our city today.  As this coal train rolled by on a parallel track, at extremely low speed, the engineer was sounding his horn about every five seconds to ensure that no one on the work crew stepped off of their equipment in front of his train.
