    Each year at the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Japanese Festival vendors sell these colorful paper parasols, or wagasa.  They are often displayed on the lawn by the vendor’s tent providing a brightly colored display in the early morning sun.  The ribbing for the parasols is an intricate interweaving of bamboo or wood and string.  When backlit by the morning sun, the shadows of this ribbing creates an interesting pattern of light and shadows like that seen on this light blue parasol.
