Apotheosis of St. Louis

The Apotheosis of St. Louis is a bronze statue located at the top of Art Hill in Forest Park, St. Louis, MO, near the Art Museum.  It was presented to the City by the Louisiana Purchase Exposition Company after the 1904 World’s Fair.  It duplicates a plaster statue designed by Charles H. Niehaus which was at the entrance to the World’s Fair but was sculpted by W. R. Hodges who submitted a lower bid for creating the bronze.  It depicts King Louis IX of France and was unveiled in 1906.
