Thanksgiving Things to Do, posted 2013-11-28

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends and family.  For those in the St. Louis area some things you may want to do after you enjoy Thanksgiving are listed below the photo (and you don’t need to fight the crowds on Black Friday to do these things :-)).

Things to Do - ThanksgivingTop to bottom (L-R):  Wild Lights 2012, Christmas Traditions 2012, Garden Glow 2013, Victorian Christmas 2012, Gardenland Express 2012

Winter Wonderland, a large light show at Tilles Park on McKnight Road just off of Highway 40 opened last night.  It runs Sunday – Friday from 5:30 – 9:30.  You drive through this show, approximately a one mile drive.  For the really romantic, carriage rides through the event are available.  Like all of the other things listed here, the event has a web site with information on hours, prices, and other things you may need to know.

Wild Lights, another light show, opens at the St. Louis Zoo tomorrow night and is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings from 5:30 – 8:30.  Parking is free in the south parking lot.  Cost is $5.00 for adults, lower for children and Zoo members.  This is a walk-thru event so you can take your time and enjoy your favorite parts of the show for as long as you like.

Christmas Traditions in Old Town St. Charles opens tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM and is open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and celebrates the holiday season with a group of costumed characters roaming the streets along with a variety of other events.  The romantic get another opportunity here with the “Kissing Ball” made with mistletoe under the Gazebo.  If the shopping bug really bites, you can combine shopping and dining in Old Town with a visit to Christmas Traditions.

The Missouri Botanical Garden offers several activities:

Victorian Christmas is now open in the Tower Grove House.  Henry Shaw’s Garden Home is decorated throughout with a variety of Christmas displays.  Victorian Christmas is open Wednesday – Sunday from 10:00 – 4:00.  Visiting the Victorian Christmas display is included in the admission price to the Missouri Botanical Garden.

Gardenland Express is also open at the Ridgway Center of the Garden from 9:00 – 4:00 daily.  This combines a display of large scale model trains with flowers and plants from the Garden.  Admission is $5.00 in addition to regular Garden admission (free for Garden members).

Garden Glow is the final special event in progress at the Garden during the holiday period.  This is another light display, also a walk-thru event that is open Wednesday – Sunday evenings from 5:00 – 9:00. Reservations are recommended and admission costs vary.
