Veteran’s Day 2014

A repost of last year’s Veteran’s Day image and some of the associated text.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice was signed by the allied nations and Germany officially bringing an end to World War I.  The following year, President Wilson proclaimed that this day should serve as a day of honor for those who fought and died in the country’s service.  In 1938, November 11 became an official holiday known as Armistice Day.  In 1954 at the urging of the military services the name of the holiday was changed to Veterans Day to honor all who had served.  Other than during a brief time in the early 1970’s, Veterans Day has continued to be observed on November 11 each year.

Thank you to all veterans for your service to our country.
